Dermal Fillers (such as Juvéderm® and saypha®)
With fillers, hyaluronic acid is injected beneath the skin to help “fill” in lines, wrinkles, folds and creases in the face and neck. Hyaluronic acid is an ingredient in many moisturizers, as it is essential for maintaining the moisture levels and firmness of the skin. The hyaluronic acid naturally found in skin decreases with age — leading to thinner, drier and less-elastic skin — as well as the formation of wrinkles.
In addition to more youthful-looking, “plumped-up” skin, dermal fillers can help smooth lines around the mouth and on the neck, add volume back to the face and lips, lift the cheeks, and contour the chin and jawline.
Prior to treatment, Dr. Hermant will meet with you to see if you’re a good candidate for dermal fillers and to discuss your goals. Dr. Hermant uses a variety of fillers, such as Juvéderm and saypha HA facial fillers. During the consultation, she will decide on which one will give you the best results. The fillers used at the clinic feature lidocaine (a local anesthetic) to minimize any discomfort. Treatments take as little as 20 minutes, and while you may experience some redness, swelling or tenderness afterward; most people are able to return to their activities the next day. Your results should be immediate and can last up to 12 to 18 months.

FAQ
-
While both have become synonymous with wrinkle reduction, they work differently and are used for different issues.
Neuromodulators reduce fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the underlying facial muscles while fillers, as the name suggests, fill in wrinkles. Dr. Hermant says a general rule is that neuromodulators are used to treat the upper part of the face while fillers are most often used in the lower part. Another guideline is that neuromodulators are used for lines of expression, while fillers treat deep lines that are visible even when facial muscles are at rest. They also help to volumize and lift the face.

After treatment, the regular use of skin-care products featuring hyaluronic acid can help slow the process by which your body breaks down fillers. The clinic carries Alastin HA Immerse Serum™ and SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier — both of which help increase the skin’s hyaluronic-acid levels over time. Dr. Hermant may suggest additional products and further precautions.

Minor swelling at the injection site is common, and normally resolves within a few days. To help avoid minor bruising, Dr. Hermant will provide preventive tips during the consultation. These include use of Alastin® Skincare INhance Post-Injection Serum, which is carried at the clinic.
